Rev. Dr. John P. Powell
The Rev. Dr. John P. Powell was born in the Pacific Northwest. Following an early call to ministry he received a B.A. in biblical studies from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon, then proceeded to Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he obtained both Master and Doctor of Divinity degrees.
After serving as associate pastor at Glendale Presbyterian Church for six years, he co-pastored, with wife, Pam, at the Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Church for six years before becoming the senior pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lubbock, Texas, where he remained for eight years. Before coming the PLCPC he served 9 years as the senior pastor at Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA, the 11th pastor to lead that church in its 200-year history.
A gifted biblical preacher, John is also deeply interested in the emotional and spiritual needs of his congregation and regularly makes home and hospital calls. His commitment to a missional church has taken him to Asia, Europe, Africa and India. John has also been a builder, most recently leading the Mt. Lebanon UPC through a successful 6.2 million dollar capital campaign and building project.
