Local Church Mission
The Local Church Mission includes participation and/or financial support of several important ministries:
- Loaves & Fishes
Loaves & Fishes (Ocean Beach Food Bank or Ocean Beach Emergency Food) has been serving the Ocean Beach and Point Loma community for almost 30 years. The primary purpose is to provide help on a temporary basis to persons having emergency food needs.
- Military Outreach Ministries (MOM)
This ministry of the Presbytery of San Diego helps military families by providing food, baby items, children’s clothing, furniture, household goods, and transportation when possible. The ministry also cares for their spiritual and emotional well-being through personal home visits, activity classes (with free child care), referral services, prayer, and Bible studies.
- Ocean Beach Soup Kitchen
This Community Outreach Dinner at Holy Trinity Parish in Ocean Beach provides a meal for those in need each Wednesday of the month via the combined efforts of several churches throughout the Ocean Beach community. Our church volunteers and youth groups provide the dinner the last Wednesday of the month. Earlier this year, the average attendance for the dinner was about 40 people. Now we serve over 100 hungry people each seating. And we continue to do so for a cost per serving of only $1.25.
The OBSK has a great group of volunteers who make this mission continue to happen. Would you like to join us? It's an investment of time of only 2 hours every other month. For more information contact Wendy Hoke at (858) 442-6051.
- Peninsula Shepherd Senior Center
This coalition of churches and service organizations provides a support system allowing seniors to live independently in their homes as long as possible, while also providing opportunities for them to socialize and serve. Transportation for medical services, shopping trips, classes, bible study, and luncheons is provided. More information is available at their website: http://www.peninsulashepherdseniorcenter.com
